SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Cultural Competency Training - Part 1
DESCRIPTION:View Resource \n The previously recorded webinar and associated materials are available in the resource library. \nDescription: Lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, and questioning/queer (LGBTQ+) individuals are frequently underserved and experience significant disparities in health outcomes and accessing preventive and ongoing healthcare. Sexual and gender minorities (SGM) often experience discrimination and bias in healthcare settings and may delay or avoid medical and preventive care. \nDeveloping safe\, culturally competent healthcare environments and practices for LGBTQ+ patients is critical and closely related to individuals’ willingness to openly share their sexual orientation and/or gender identity and expression (SOGIE). Capturing SOGIE data is critical as it allows providers to have a more comprehensive picture of key factors that influence care. \nThis session will start with a brief discussion of SOGIE terminology and a compilation of what is known about medical and behavioral health needs and disparities among the LGBTQ+ community. We will highlight the critical need for creating environments that improve patients’ psychological safety and increase their willingness to share SOGIE characteristics. We will share examples of how this data could be utilized to improve care and patient satisfaction\, including capturing a patient’s preferred name and pronouns\, and ways to engage in respectful conversations that could reveal key aspects of their medical history that could otherwise go unnoticed. \nPart 2 of the two-part series will be on June 6\, 12:00-1:00 pm ET – Register Here. \nThis session aligns with the DC Board of Social Work requirements for continuing education. \nSpeakers: Nora L. Carreras\, MPA and Dr. Kevin Waldorf-Cruz\, LICSW\, LCSW-C \n \n  \n  \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nProvide a clear understanding of the terminology and differentiators related to SOGIE.\nExplain how to use cultural information and terminology to establish clinical relationships and create welcoming and inclusive environments for patients and their loved ones.\nProvide information on the medical/behavioral health needs and health disparities among the LGBTQ+ community\, and research showing bias and discrimination in healthcare systems.\nShare best practices for collecting/using SOGIE and health history data to improve primary\, preventive healthcare\, and patient experience.\nProvide concrete\, actionable steps to address underlying cultural and implicit biases\, and provide inclusive and nondiscriminatory care for patients who identify as LGBTQ.\n\nContent Level: Moderate \nTarget Audience: Administrators\, Clinicians\, & Support Staff \nCourse Interaction & System Requirements: This live webinar is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led discussions. \nCourse Completion & CE Requirements: \nHealth Management Associates\, #1780\, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Cultural Competency Training – Part 2
Capturing SOGIE data allows providers to have a more comprehensive picture of key factors that influence care. \nThis session will be a continuation and deeper exploration of several topics discussed in Part 1 and will include provider perspectives on best practices while collecting\, storing\, and using SOGIE data to improve care and outcomes. \nThis session aligns with the DC Board of Social Work requirements for continuing education. \nSpeakers: Nora L. Carreras\, MPA \n \n  \n  \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDemonstrate and employ various methods and processes to collect and utilize SOGIE and health history data to improve care for individuals who identify as LGBTQ+.\nDescribe best practices utilized by providers to gather\, store\, and use SOGIE data.\nRecognize and explain the impact of discriminatory practices\, and develop practical strategies to prevent and address these practices.\nDiscuss proven provider practices to address bias and improve clinical environments for patients who identify as LGBTQ+.\n\nContent Level: Moderate \nTarget Audience: Administrators\, Clinicians\, & Support Staff \nCourse Interaction & System Requirements: This live webinar is fully interactive. SUMMARY:Promise & Perils of VBP - Behavioral Health VBP Part 1
DESCRIPTION:View Resource \n The previously recorded webinar and associated materials are available in the resource library. \nDescription: Value is a function of impact and cost. BH providers provide a very high-impact\, relatively low-cost service. As such\, payment methodologies that reward value should be an opportunity for them to increase their revenue. SUMMARY:Value-Based Payment: Is it Disrupting Healthcare for the Better? Role of a Capitated Alternative Payment Model - FQHC Part 2
DESCRIPTION:View Resource \n The previously recorded webinar and associated materials are available in the resource library. \nDescription: This webinar will focus on the “why” of transitioning from fee-for-service to capitation to pay for community health center direct services. Dr. Jones will discuss how fee-for-service reimbursement limits patient access to care and hampers efforts to improve patient self-management and accountability for their own health. He will share examples of how innovators are using lessons learned from other service industries to disrupt the healthcare market. Participants will learn how moving away from the fee-for-service system can preserve revenue streams but also support new models of care\, and how payment reform can help to address primary care workforce shortages. \nSpeakers: Art Jones\, MD\, & Caitlin Thomas-Henkel\, MSW \n \n  \n  \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDescribe the linkages between payment methodology and health outcomes.\nIdentify at least 2 models of care made uniquely feasible under VBP models.\nDescribe the role payment reform can play to address primary care workforce shortages.\nExplain how fee-for-service reimbursement for primary care and ambulatory behavioral health care service is a barrier to improving patient outcomes.\nEnvision the new normal in the provision of these ambulatory care services.\nAppreciate the advantages of transitioning to a capitated FQHC alternative payment model.\n\nContent Level: Moderate \nTarget Audience: Administrators\, Clinicians\, & Support Staff \nCourse Interaction & System Requirements: This live webinar is fully interactive. SUMMARY:Allocation of Value-Based Payment Incentive Payments to Optimize Performance - VBP Foundations Part 3
DESCRIPTION:View Resource \n The previously recorded webinar and associated materials are available in the resource library. \nDescription: One of the greatest threats to success for clinically integrated networks is an uneven commitment from disparate providers to improve patient outcomes and reduce avoidable\, low-value healthcare costs. Success depends on providers investing time and other resources to achieve performance targets. Although the distribution of value-based payments should certainly take into consideration the number of patients either attributed or served\, it must also recognize the contribution each entity made to generate the incentive payments. This webinar will explore principles and examples of distribution methodologies aimed at fairly allocating those dollars. \nSpeakers: Art Jones\, MD\, & Hunter Schouweiler\, MS-HSM \n \n  \n  \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nList the various determinants of the size of the incentive earned.\nDescribe how to translate those determinants into performance metrics.\nUnderstand how to establish performance targets for those metrics that disproportionately rewards the highest performers while continuing to engage providers across the network.\nExplain the rationale for investing some of the incentive funds to improve future performance in value-based payment contracts and to create reserves that increases the potential size of the incentive pool.\n\nContent Level: Moderate \nTarget Audience: Administrators\, Clinicians\, & Support Staff \nCourse Interaction & System Requirements: This live webinar is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led discussions. \nSystem Requirements: \n\nOperating Systems: Windows XP or higher\, MacOS 9 or higher\, Android 4.0 or higher\nInternet Browser: Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher\, Google Chrome\, Firefox 10.0 or higher\nBroadband Internet connection: Cable\, high-speed DSL & any other medium that is internet accessible
