Improving access to sickle cell disease (SCD) gene therapy and support

The CGT Learning Collaborative, launched in June 2026, is dedicated to strengthening providers’ and community partners’ ability to identify, reach, and support Medicaid beneficiaries with sickle cell disease (SCD) who may be eligible for gene therapy under the Cell & Gene Therapy (CGT) Access Model. Created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the CGT Access model aims to improve health outcomes and quality of life by expanding access to gene therapy for eligible Medicaid beneficiaries with SCD.

What the Learning Collaborative Offers

  • Learn how the CGT Access Model works and how the District is putting it into practice
  • Join a network of dedicated community organizations, providers, and care teams working improve patient access to gene therapy
  • Strengthen whole-person care across the CGT treatment journey, including behavioral health and family/caregiver support

What’s Included

  • Virtual learning sessions with CME/CE credits
  • One‑on‑one coaching tailored to your organization’s goals and needs
  • In‑person workshops with SCD care providers, community partners, and people with lived experience with SCD

How to Get Involved

Be part of a District‑wide effort to expand access to gene therapy for eligible Medicaid beneficiaries with SCD and support these patients, their families, and their caregivers through the treatment journey.
